Four fun tips to learn languages
When you first start learning a new language, hearing that it takes approximately 750 hours to become proficient sounds daunting. It doesn’t have to be. In order for learning to take place, it should be relevant and most of all FUN! Team Freestyle is here to help!
#1 Listen to music
This is one of my favorite ways to absorb language. I turn on some music, do chores or take a walk and before long I find myself singing along and picking up words almost without realizing it! Note that this can help with the lyricism of language and pronunciation!

#2 Watch tv shows or movies
Watching tv series or movies in another language (with English subtitles) you are doing more than just listening to language, you are also practicing the 5th skill- culture. You have a window into the country, the food, the accent, the clothing, etc. Another way to use TV to your advantage is to change the language on your favorite show- you already know the plot, so you can concentrate on what they are saying.

#3 Read
Do you have a hobby? Read about it online in your target language ie the language you are learning. Read headlines from online magazines or newspapers. Do you have a favorite book? Through the power of context clues, you will pick up more than just the storyline!

#4 Practice out loud with others
This piece is crucial to the language learning process. Practicing and making mistakes are all part of learning. As importantly, organic conversation empowers you to learn relevant language. This is one of the reasons why we host monthly Spanish and French events for learners to practice in a relaxed and fun environment while discussing a range of topics like food, music, travel, or yoga. There is an event for everyone, as all levels benefit.

Learning is not a passive activity. You get out of it what you put into it, with a little effort and using these tips, you will be at your language goal before you know it!
