Liz Mayne hails from Evanston, Illinois, but has made a home in Austin, TX these past six years while working on her doctorate in French Linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin. Liz grew up in a household with books in French, German, and Latin, and began learning French in 6th grade. Her parents took her and her sister on vacations to Paris and Quebec in middle school and high school, which gave her a deeper appreciation for the French language and francophone culture.
Liz holds a BA in French Studies (minor in Linguistics) as well as an MA in French Linguistics, both from the University of Illinois. She has taught university courses in French at all levels, and tutored students of different ages, levels, and goals. Liz has had the opportunities to study abroad in Paris and later teach English at the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon. While in Dijon, she played violin in the university orchestra, and took figure skating classes. Liz continues to figure skate in Austin, and plays music when she has time. Liz loves sharing her knowledge of the French language and culture with her students at Freestyle. She looks forward to seeing you in French class!
